Great City Games and Chilli Fest

Today we headed into the city centre to watch the Great City Games, a fantastic event where Manchester gets turned into an athletics arena, with a running track, pole vault and long jump, for some of the world’s best athletes and parathetes to compete. From Greg Rutherford and Johnny Peacock, to Allyson Felix and Christophe Lemaitre, it was amazing to be able to get up close and watch these guys in action. The weather was absolutely marvelous, so it was a brilliant day out in the sun.WP_20130525_039

My favourite event had to be the pole vault.

It’s astonishing how high those guys are able to propel themselves, as well as the crazy angles they put themselves through as their pole bends.

In the long jump, Greg Rutherford charmed the crowd and won the event comfortably. You don’t realise quite how fast they run until you see them up close.

The sprinters all looked phenomenal. They all have such amazing physiques, producing so much power!

After all of the racing had finished, we headed up to the Northern Quarter for the Manchester Chilli Festival.

fiestaWP_20130525_086 My chilli of choice contained 48hour slow-cooked brisket, gorgeous mince, chipotle, avacado salad, bacon lime salt and lots of nachos. Yum yum yum!
