Suncream, sunnies and hat at the ready. The sun has finally appeared! Woohoo! After spending the year so far wrapped up in coats and staying indoors, it was finally an opportunity to enjoy the British summer.
This bank holiday weekend we sat out on the balcony for the very first time since I bought the apartment at the end of last year. I’ve had the balcony furniture for a while, but up until now I’ve been too much of a wimp to sit out there when the weather has been so miserable.
I rummaged around in the fridge and cupboard and rustled up supplies of sandwiches, sausage rolls, Hula Hoops, fruit and a big rhubarb pie, grabbed some smoothie and chocolate milk, and also used it as a good excuse to crack out some pretty crockery.
Darren and I live in a tenth floor apartment so we get a great city scape view. Just don’t look down as it’s a very long way! We had a lovely lunch time sat out in the sun, filling our bellies with our picnic goodies. Even though the hustle and bustle of the city isn’t too far away, it somehow feels so much more peaceful when you’re ten storeys up. Once we’d had our fill from lunch, Darren enjoyed a little nap and I cracked out my current book – Gone With the Wind. I’m enjoying this novel so much that I don’t want it to end. Luckily I’m not going to be finishing any time soon because it’s such an epic book – nearly 1000 pages of very small writing! The story writing is simply delicious and it’s a treat to read.
Fingers crossed we’ll have many more warm days this summer so we can enjoy sitting out there on a regular basis. If you’re looking for similar kit to deck out your balcony, my furniture is the Folding Bistro set from Homebase. The pie plate and slice are from the Portmeirion Crazy Daisy range, and I can’t find a link to the cake stand, but here is a similar one from Cake Stand Heaven.
